In 2013, a very small number of Lamborghini VIP customers were invited to a secret viewing. The “star” of the event was the Egoista – a one-off car unlike anything Lamborghini had ever seen, is seeing, or could ever see.
Developed to celebrate Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary, the Egoista showcases the Italian brand’s vision and engineering prowess without being constrained by any framework. The car’s design looks no different from a fighter jet with its sharp design.
According to the Italian brand, the design inspiration for the car, in addition to fighter jets, also came from the image of a bull bowing its head and pointing its horns at its opponent. Of course, this frame is not only strange but also extremely effective in terms of aerodynamics, creating an absolute balance between downforce and air resistance.
The Lamborghini Egoista’s body and wheels are made from radar-resistant material used on fighter jets. The headlights look like airplane lights with turn signals on both sides and on the roof. According to the company’s designer Walter de Silva, this car looks “like a four-wheeled UFO.”
The Lamborghini Egoista interior is as “selfish” as its name suggests (Egoista means selfish in Italian and Spanish). The reason for saying so is that the entire area is only wrapped around a single user and is not shared with anyone.
To get into the driver’s seat, users not only need to open (or even remove) the ceiling but also need to remove the steering wheel like an F1 racing car. Specialized racing seats with 4-point seat belts, HUD screens, and aircraft-inspired buttons and controls make the occupants feel special if the exterior is not enough.
The cockpit is made entirely of aluminum and carbon fiber like the Apache attack helicopter, thereby “protecting the user” from outside dangers.
The Lamborghini Egoista is perfectly roadworthy, but it was never built to meet any public driving standards. The chassis is taken from the Gallardo, but no one can tell the difference.
The heart of the Lamborghini Egoista is a naturally aspirated 5.2L V10 “monster” located in the middle of the car. The capacity of 591 horsepower, torque of 560Nm is transmitted to all 4 wheels through a 6-speed sequential automatic transmission.
The Lamborghini Egoista was initially announced at… 117 million USD (approximately 3,000 billion VND) – a record high not only for Lamborghini but also for the entire car industry at that time. However, the company quickly changed its mind and kept the unique car for display at the Sant’Agata Bolognese museum.
After a while, the Italian brand… changed its mind again. The Lamborghini Egoista was bought by an anonymous collector for an unknown price and has since disappeared from history.
