A Russian fat cat, called Liznya The Cat has come under fire after commenters claimed her owners are 'cruel' for overfeeding her

The cat's owners hit back, claiming that the weight gain was an unforeseen problem after Liznya's pregnancy

One person said: ‘It’s gonna die any day.’

While another asked: ‘Why did you let her get this big?’

A third commenters said: ‘Disgusting. First it was forcing dogs to walk on their hind legs, now purposely overfeeding your cat to morbid obesity? Humans, honestly.’

Meanwhile another person wrote: ‘Stop abusing animals morons, imagine feeding an animal, almost killing it, just to make it look cute, you people are sick.’

The owner, keen to clear up the confusion surrounding the cat’s diet and routine, wrote an Instagram post that explained why Liznya had reached such a large size.

Speaking about the trolled kitty they said: ‘There are some misunderstandings. So let’s make them clear. We have never tried to overfeed Liznya.

The large cat has been to the vet since putting on weight and is now on a strict 29 gram diet of  Royal Canin diet cat food

They explained further that Liznya’s pregnancy exacerbated her weight gain and she had made several visits to the vet since.

During her visits, the veterinarian has prescribed many different diet cat foods until one had started to work.

They said: ‘She seems to have stopped gaining weight with her current plan, but still there are problems with losing it.

‘We can’t show her to a vet too frequently, but we will definitely do it again and again if needed.

‘We do not support any kinds of abuse and it is not OK to threaten the owners. And we also can’t ignore that some point out that our cat was slimmer in 2020. It is true, but she did not gain much weight since then, look at other old pictures taken from a different angle to make sure.

‘And yes, Liznya can walk, she even loves to play hunting! We agree she needs to be more active to lose her weight.

‘If some people still do not believe the above, well, that is your opinion, but please do not spread false information and do not wish the owners to die. It is a bit sad to read messages like this.’

Later, in a highlighted instagram story dedicated to talking about Liznya’s weight management, the owner showed herself serving out 29g of Royal Canin diet cat food for her pet’s meal.
